About 401k Lookup

401k Lookup is a free lookup of large U.S. employers' 401(k) and pension plans. It is built from the Form 5500 annual reports that 401(k), pension and profit-sharing plans file with the Department of Labor, plus the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation's list of pension plans it has taken over. For each employer it shows each plan's name and number, who runs it, how to reach the plan administrator, and what happened to plans that closed, merged or failed.

Why it exists

People change jobs, and companies merge, rename themselves and change plan providers. Years later it is easy to lose track of an old workplace plan, and hard to find out who runs it now. The Department of Labor's own search shows one filing at a time. 401k Lookup joins each plan's filings, year by year, into one history, so you can see who to call.

Who publishes it

401k Lookup is published by Goods Media LLC, a small software company in Fountain Hills, Arizona. The site is free to use, with no account and nothing to buy. It does not show ads today. It may carry advertising later; if it does, the privacy page will be updated first.

What it is not

401k Lookup is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Labor, the PBGC, any employer or any plan provider. It cannot see anyone's account, so it cannot tell you whether you have money in a plan; the plan's recordkeeper or administrator can. It will never ask for your Social Security number. It is not financial or legal advice.
