Pension plans taken over by the PBGC
When a company can no longer pay for its pension plan, the federal Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) takes the plan over and pays retirees their benefits, up to limits set by law. These are the plans on the PBGC's list of trusteed plans. If you or a family member worked for one of these employers, the PBGC, not the company, is who pays the pension.
